Me and the Ultimate Loser (UL)

My gym has created its own Biggest Loser program, The Ultimate Loser.  A lot of companies and organizations have taken on something similar.  However, this is not just chalking numbers on a board each week.  They are focusing on the tough love Bob and Jillian give to all of their contestants.   Intense training, some nutrition tips and tricks… and a scale.  Every week for six weeks.

So, $25 for registration, a tshirt, six last chance workouts (1/wk) and weekly weigh-ins.  For $165 you get all of that plus six additional training sessions (1/wk).  I thought that $165 for 12 training sessions is a huge value.  I mean… who needs new UGGs when I could be working on skinnier calves to shove in my old ones anyway! ;)

Prize?  Weight loss and improved physical condition along with maybe a free month of membership or something, not sure.

My commitment and enthusiasm? Here we goooo.

I weighed in for the first time on Friday, February 5th.  The woman sees the number on the scale and precedes to write one pound less than this number on my sheet.  I didn't correct her?  Jillian... typical.

Week One.

Tuesday February 9th
Group training session with Kelly… KellzBellz (omg am I in for it) was actually pretty OK!  From what I understand, the mean part/tough love comes in tomorrow evening at “last chance workout.”  However, she did push me much farther than my body has been in awhile.

No kettleballs, thank god. But all the squatting and wall sits and core work… hard work just the same!  My muscles were twitching like CRAZY by the end of the workout.  Can only mean pain tomorrow.

Wednesday February 10th
OMG am I sore!  I was kind of expecting this to happen.  I am walking like a penguin and getting up and down out of chairs does not go without flinching.  After a little research, I’ve discovered there is an actual science and term for the way I feel, Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/injuries/a/doms.htm

Yep.  Delayed alright.  I toyed with the idea of doing the elliptical today for a half hour or so just to keep movement up, but the penguin flippers didn’t march me back to the gym today after all.  Lots of water.  Some carbs… and mental preparation for tomorrow’s LAST CHANCE WORKOUT f-m-l.

Monday February 15th
Well, despite what you might think after needing 4 days to update my log, I survived last chance workout (LCW).  I actually felt a little better Friday morning after the workout than I did Wednesday and Thursday morning, surprisingly!  However, it only took 32 seconds on the treadmill to realize my leg muscles weren’t quite ready to run yet.  Elliptical for 45 mins instead.

Friday I weighed in.  Flat even from last week, but lets remember I didn't correct the woman at the original weigh in.  So really it means one pound less than the week before.  Regardless... baby steps?  I’m pretty sure on the show contestants are dropping double digits the first three weeks.   Oh well, I wasn’t the most behaved girl the previous weekend!  Superbowl food? Who could resist?!

Here we go week two!
