happy lent!

I'm hope you appreciate my satirical humor today.

Lent, a Catholic phenomenon.  Every year, after Fat Tuesday must come Ash Wednesday.  Here begins 40 days of Lent during which time we are supposed to give up something to honor the 40 days Christ spent in the wild... or something.  I didn't exactly pass CCD.  And something about no meat on Fridays. (Oh the horrid fish stick Fridays as a kid...)

Most of you know I'm not a religious gal.  However, I have used Lent as an excuse to kick start a diet or just wean myself off of bad habits in general.  Most years I start out overly ambitious, giving up just about everything bad (good?) in life and in the end up I have only given up something along the likes ofbrussel sprouts or anything else I couldn't possibly have eaten, drank, done, said in the past 40 days.

This year, I consulted a friend from Ireland, the Mecca of Catholics, about ideas for what to give up for Lent.  He said:
"I prefer the idea of doing something instead.  The whole punishment, giving up, negative model no longer appeals to me.  Like what good does it do?"

Wow.  Spot on, I love it. So for the next 40 days... I am training for the Broad Street Run (year no. 2) woot woot!  However, I need something else that is a little less selfish to do as well.  Any ideas?  Like maybe I volunteer once a week or maybe I raise money for the Broad Street Run in honor of The American Cancer Society.  Hmm.  Thoughts?

I'll leave you with more someecards...
