overdue! Farmor's 80th Birthday

Easter weekend was quite busy.  It all culminated on Easter Monday with Farmors 80th birthday 'bash' in Sweden. Such a beautiful day, a gorgeous place and fantastic company.  Great day.  Enjoy some pics!

I held a speech for Farmor and of course I started crying pretty much as soon as the first word came out.  I don't know why I do that and why if I know I will cry that I still put myself in these positions, pfft.  Practice makes perfect, maybe?  However, it all went over well and everyone understood my Danish in the midst of tears, haha.

I was once again really struggling with extreme sunlight and the camera.  I just need to read some more and figure it out.  Again, practice makes perfect.

Overall a fantastic day, it's still all Farmor can talk about, haha.  In the process of making a book for her with all the pictures.

Now we're looking forward to my grandparents coming to visit at the end of May.  Just hoping this ridiculously nice weather holds out.  I can't get over how nice it has been lately!

budding spring

Spring is here or at least trying to be here but the landscape here in Denmark is still very brown at the moment. However, some things are starting to bud.

I followed Christian around today with my camera while he started mulching (our own mulch from our compound - we are so green?... or rather Christian is so green...).  Found a few subjects, enjoy.

And a shot of my all-time favorite subject...

I will also upload a picture or two of my newest project soon!

the rest of paris

Just the last few photos I wanted to share. :) I should note that we stayed in a 'B&B' in Paris which was actually just a tiny little apartment on our own.  For the price, couldn't beat it.  It had tons of charm but I think it would have been more fun for a longer term visit, not just a weekend.  Cute just the same!

Walking around town

The locks on the bridge by Notre Dame were pretty cool.  On our last night there Christian and I joined the tradition with a very itty bitty lock.  Camera had done and died by then so no pics of our lock unfortunately.  We'll just have to go back and visit it sometime. :)

No more travels for awhile.  Thanks to free flights Paris was just barely affordable.  Butttt winter has struck the wallets so it'll be awhile before the next foreign adventure together.

BUT... SWALSHY IS COMING TO DENMARK NEXT WEEK!  I am so beyond excited to show her my new frozen land. :D

paris by night

In the end it seems like the majority of my photos are from night time.  We got in late afternoon on the Friday and then we were slow moving in the mornings.  Hey it was vacation.  Paris in 4 days is impossible to do it all anyway, so we just played it by ear.

From Sacre Coeur

Not having a 'plan' in Paris was as good as it was bad.  It was nice just to relax and stroll but I could have done with some set in stone plans to either get us out of the apartment earlier or to ensure a good meal.  However, Paris at night doesn't get much more romantic! :D

We started in Montmartre on Friday where we stayed.  We arrived at the Sacre Coeur base and took the stairs up.

Sacre Coeur from the bottom of the hill

I was thrilled, obviously ;)

we made it!from the topwandering around MontmartreYou'll recognize this one.  We didn't go in, but I think at some point I'd like to go see a cabaret in Paris.  Not necessarily the Moulin Rouge but it could be cool to see in person just once.

The next day we did some shopping and the rain struck late afternoon.  We rocked up to The Louvre at 4:30 and it was closing at 5:30 so we decided we shouldn't waste the money to go in in for only an hour.  Again, the planning could have helped there.

The Louvre

I am not sure if this ferris wheel is a permanent structure in Paris but after a looong coffee break we wandered above ground and found that the rain stopped.  We went up in the ferris wheel which was awesome, just not so great for photos as we were encaged in rain drop covered cabins (word?).

Arc de Triomphe

All in all pretty pleased with a few good shots.  As my grandpa correctly out, that is what the delete button is for but be careful not to delete the ugly duckling :)

eiffel for him.

I did fall for him, my wonderful valentine.  He makes me so happy.  He was a good sport for all my modelling demands. :)

Our trip to Paris was great.  So many fun shots I want to share with you all, thought it made the most sense to break them up a bit.  This post is dedicated to capturing the one and only Eiffel Tower.

We were lucky to spot it sparkling at least 3x.  Once from up at Sacre Coeur, once while in the ferris wheel (pictures from inside that thing were impossible) and once up front when we finally arrived there after walking from The Louvre.

Very tricky to capture.  Enjoy what I came up with!

From the Ferris Wheel area... somewhere at the start of Champs Elysees.

Right smack up against it while it was sparkling :)

From the park/giant structure across the riverShooting Paris at night in general was an experience for me and my camera.  We are still figuring each other out at the moment.  I took maybe 1 good one for every 10 crap photos.  All a part of the learning curve I suppose.

My camera battery charger has gone MIA.  If anyone has seen it please let me know.  I was super bummed when she died on me first thing Sunday morning.  I will have to buy a new one I guess, such a weird thing to lose!

More to come!
