'tis the season!

This week Hurricane Holly Holiday hit Boston.  So many holiday celebrations, so little time.  I tried to board up the windows but it’s too late.  Gum drops and candy canes are pouring down.

I have been out and about like a Christmas rockstar every night and pretty busy at work and trying to finish up gifts!

Not sure how I came to the conclusion that I should do all the Christmas shopping for my fam and my hubby's but I'm going to guess it was the control freak in me that insisted. I also heart Christmas shopping. With that said, I have a couple regrets!

  1. I started too early: this has led to endless indifference to gifts that I keep trying to replace to make them cooler, better, perfect. (Yes it is exhausting to attempt perfection in all walks of life)
  2. I didn't set budget parameters. I don't feel like I spent too much (ok maybe a little, it's a disease) but I'm not confident I spent equally between kick-a$$ gifts.
  3. I got too much wrapping paper and yet keep buying more.  A girl can’t help an eye for cute prints!
  4. I bought gifts that were semi-heavy.  Hello? Earth to Jillian… luggage isn’t free these days!
  5. I couldn’t find things that were entirely thoughtful for EVERYONE.  You know how you just see something and you know exactly who it’s for?  It’s nearly impossible to have this light shining down on the gift moments for every one on your list.
  6. I don’t loooove our holiday card we sent out.  With the wedding thank-you cards going out in the same time frame I felt like it’d be silly to send around a holiday card with yet another wedding photo.  It works, but next years will be better.  And hopefully a shiny black lab will be in the pic, HINT HINT. :D

So, other than a few small shoulda, coulda wouldas, I think I’ve done a good job finding relatively thoughtful gifts.  :)

As they say… ‘Tis the Season!  I love this time of year!  And I simply CANNOT wait for a Danish Christmas!!! Yay!!!  What are your holiday plans?  Do you have any holiday shopping regrets or successes you care to share??

you're not better than bagging your own groceries, i promise.

There are pro's and con's about living in Brookline and being so close to a massive Trader Joes.  I mean... TJs is pretty fantastic considering the food is so good, fresh and cheap.  Let's also not forget the cheap wine - you had some at my wedding!  But it's a little too close to my house and I find that my legs are now programmed to walk in there straight from disembarking from the T.  :-/

Okay... so anyone who lives in Brookline KNOWS how busy this place is at any given hour or minute of the day.  So my question is, why do some people just stand there like counting sheep as the groceries are rang up and pile up.  Ok like... there is no belt... there is no bagger at the end of the belt.  Get it together and start bagging people!

It makes me SO mad.  There are obviously like 500 people in line behind you so then you make the poor cashier bag your groceries for you.  And of course the employees of Trader Joes are so super sweet and are trained to be so easy going that they'd never say anything.

I don't care if you want paper, plastic or bring your own - just bag your own gd groceries as they're rung up.  Don't worry, the nice cashier will help finish bagging while you pay.  It's really not rocket science.  GET IT TOGETHER.  You're not entitled.
