reception & cake

This post is dedicated to our reception and our CAKE. Don't read if you're hungry!

Christian's dad and grandma made our cake, once again.  They did not disappoint, once again!

Every part of this cake from the taste to the decoration was absolutely fantastic.  The cake consisted of a walnut flour cake layered with chocolate creme and white chocolate blueberry creme.  It was so absolutely delicious, I can't wait until next year to eat the top layer.

Speaking of top layer wedding anniversary cake, Christian and I ate our first wedding cake last night on our 'official'(?) first wedding anniversary.  YUM :)

Anyway, back to this recent cake.  I think the decoration is what meant the most to me.  Firstly, how Christian's dad found a plane with a bride and groom in it... is beyond me.  He found it while on vacation in Spain, too funny.  Christian is upset because I'm in the captain seat... but it's just the way the world works, babe.

So basically it's a run way coming from America (hence the American flag and Statue of Liberty) landing in Denmark (hence the Danish flag and The Little Mermaid statue).  How friggen cute?  It's little anecdotes like this that remind me of my own dad (he's one with cake creativity as well) and remind me how loved I am here!  I love it! :)

So we had what the Danes call a 'reception' after our ceremony before the dinner/party.  In Denmark it's common to invite some people just to the ceremony and the reception and then a smaller more intimate group to the dinner/party.  Of course I can't distinguish who should come to what so we had the same group the whole day.

We went to Uncle Bjarne's (flower uncle) house for wedding cake, light lunch, coffee and champagne.

I learned the nifty trick of opening champagne with a saber.  Awesome.  It actually took several tries in two different attempts.  The first attempt lead to a pretty nasty butchering of the bottle into 5 pieces - I deemed it the viking way.  My second attempt came with some advice from Bjarne and wah-la it went perfectly.  Except for the part when Otto (their pup) chased after the broken top, haha.

The reception is also where the trampoline pictures come from.  Whyyyy not.  Someone said that if I was happy to jump on a trampoline in my wedding dress, I married into the right family.  Damn straight.

Such great weather and company.  Next post due is on the dinner/party at Christian's mom's house.

perfect wedding #2 : The preparations!

I don't know how it's possible to have two absolutely perfect weddings but we have been blessed.  The wedding this Saturday was as breathtaking and heartfelt as our first, we loved every second of it!

As you know, we did this as a family again so we owe a HUGE thank you to every single person who helped us with our special day.  We sincerely couldn't have done it without you!

I'm aiming to blog about the day/weekend in chunks.  First up, the preparations!

Two tents were put together in the lower garden (only one shown below) at Christian's mom's house.

Putting up curtains:

Laying the floor:

Carpet layed, tables set:

Buffet table around the apple tree:

Here's a picture from the dinner to show the table settings a little better (friends from HS):

A lounge was set up in the upper parking area at Christian's mom's house.  It is where we hosted appetizers and served as a quiet get-away during the party:

The lounge after...

There are pictures missing even from all the preparation details.  This was just Christian's mom's house - we had a reception at Uncle Bjarne's between church and Christian's mom's house that I'll share soon!

I'm hoping to collect more pictures from different sources soon but I thought I'd share these for now.  More to come! :) :)

THANK YOU EVERYONE, IT WAS SUCH AN AMAZING DAY!

wedding is this saturday!

There isn't much I can show you but I just got so excited last night when I got to see the start of decorating the tent.  Ahh I have to keep it mostly a surprise for our guests here but I can't wait to share the completed project. Kate you would die, haha.

Ok here's a smallll sneak peak but trust me it's nothing... this was taken while the other side of the tent was getting its makeover.

It's all going to come together and look absolutely perfect, I can't wait!

I also helped make some of our wedding cake this week... well really just watched Christian's dad make it and taste everything to make sure it was good (sooo good).  It's a hybrid between traditional wedding cake and my favorite cake here (remember the birthday cake I wrote about?).  So excited.

There's still room - book your tickets! ;)

anniversaries and 2nd weddings

I am confusing many people these days when I talk about our second wedding.  I think half the people I explain it to here think that I am getting remarried to a different man less than one year after my first wedding. hahaha.

In more exciting news we received a present for our first wedding anniversary!  Thank you Uncle Matt, Aunt Angela, Jack & Maya!!!

I was working from home yesterday, it was the perfect midday surprise!  Take notice of the heart glitter EVERYWHERE.  I have a feeling these will be haunting us for many anniversaries to come!  i found one in the shower this morning, another one in a sock this afternoon... etc.

My aunt, Angela, is so crafty.  She took my dried bouquet and put it in a shadow box frame with our invitation.  Soooo cute and so original compared to some of the more traditional invitation frames.  I LOVE IT!

And what would a care package from the Huberty's be without child artwork?  Melts my heart.  Our fridge here is overflowing already.

Jack's drawing of him and Christian in their monkey suits:

Maya's artistic spin on my wedding dress.

I love guys and miss you SOOOO MUCH!!! Thank you for being so thoughtful!! It means a lot to us :)

Also got a card in the mail from my bestie Stephanie - thank you my love!  (i miss you)

And finalllllly customs took their grubby hands off my dress!  It's here and laying out - hope the wrinkles fall out before the wedding otherwise I will have to steam it.  I just noticed three buttons are missing from the back grrr.  Those definitely could have fell out dancing at our (first) wedding, though.

Wedding numero dos is a week and a half a way.  Should be a great time - we'll miss friends and family from the US!

august is going to be crazy.

Well, life is about to get busy here in Denmark.

I signed my contract to work for Experian (my parent company from back in the US) and I start Monday August 2nd!  It’s been a long time coming, just so happy it has properly worked out.

Here’s where I’ll be working, not a typical American office, huh?:

It’s in Copenhagen East – pretty central!

My role will be to support Experian domains all over EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) to get some better ecommerce (webshop) functionality hence my title, eCommerce Project Manager.  I am also going to be working on SEO and web analytics for key sites and teaching local marketing teams how to do some of these bits on their own as well.  A variety of hats I suppose, which I like!

Of course as soon as I accepted the job all the other opportunities I’d been working came rolling in.  You snooze you lose, Denmark!  I hit the ground with rollerblades on (hitting the ground running just wouldn’t do it justice as we all know what a slow runner I am).

School starts August 7th.  Say goodbye to relaxing Saturdays.  I have school every Saturday from 9-3 for the next year and a half.  Awesome.  I also have plenty of assignments to work on during the week.

Then what else… oh let’s see… we have a Danish wedding on September 4th! We just mailed in the invites.  I have no idea how much time this is going to consume in planning but I know I don’t have a whole lot of it to go around so it should be interesting!

If you’re interested in any wedding details (any of you in the states are MORE THAN WELCOME – we’d love some guests from home!), I’m once again updating the ‘wedding’ section of the site.  Including the wedding blog. :)

To get me through all the celebration and the stress, my husband found proper Tequila in duty free in Latvia two weeks ago. God bless Latvia.

God bless tequila.
