Als & Curley Wedding
September 12th, 2009
Ceremony begins at 5:00pm
We are so excited to share our love and a wedding with our loved ones. The wedding will be held at the Aunt & Uncle of the bride's historical home in Downingtown, PA. Please use the navigation on the right to find any details you may need.
Our Ceremony
Our wedding ceremony will a variation of a Quaker Ceremony. Christian and I are not Quakers but after reading about Quaker wedding ceremonies we found them to be touching, beautiful and a wonderful way to share our love of each other with our family and friends.
Here's what you may want to know ahead of time so you understand what is happening as well as if you wish to contribute:
After Christian and I exchange our vows to each other the ceremony is then opened up to all those attending to say something if they like. You can share a poem, a story, a piece of advice, a part of a book or scripture, whatever it is you'd like to share with or say to the bride and groom.
There will likely be moments of silence between speakers but this is normal and is meant for a time of reflection. I'm sure you can count on Jillian to laugh and break it. ;)
Please don't feel obligated to say anything, we know we have some shy family and friends! We wouldn't have enough time for 75 people to all say something, anyway! Just have a think about it and if you feel moved to say something just stand up as the previous person is finishing.
I have written more specifically about Quaker ceremonies here if you'd like to know more about the traditions.
After everyone who wanted to has spoken we will exchange rings and a kiss and we'll all be on our merry way to partying the night away :D
